Collection of Wedding Invitations

I found some old wedding invitations earlier this week that my Great Grandparents Elizabeth Croal & William Gow had received in the early 1900s. They are still in quite good condition which is wonderful as they are over 100 years old. I think I would like to do some research on the families to see if there are any descendants. It might be interesting for them to know that we still have an invitation to their ancestors wedding.

Wedding of Mary Walder & David Croal,
my Great Grandmother's cousin.
19th August 1911
I believe the next three brides were all sisters...

Wedding of Mabel Jessie Rogers & Harold Brain
23rd December 1908
Wedding of Clarice Rogers & Norman Sharp
23rd November 1910
Wedding of Ethel Rogers & Charles Wiley
1st September 1909
The next two brides as well...

Wedding of Jessie Douglas Lindsay & William Evans
10th January 1906
Wedding of Roberta Agnes Lindsay & Henry Johnson
15th March 1911
Wedding of Ada Lawrence Pepper & A. B. Jung
5th June 1907
An invitation for the Lindsay family requesting their presence at the wedding of my Great Grandparents on December 14th, 1904.

Just beautiful!

  3. What a collection! I enjoyed reading them and seeing the slight differences to today's invitations. I wonder if the churches mentioned are still around.

Thanks you so much for sharing them.

  4. BTW I think I have saved the invitations from most of the weddings I have attended. I hope my kids don't toss them away.

    1. I've only been to 1 wedding and still have the invitation. I need to see if my parents still have any of theirs.

  6. Another idea is to also photograph them and place in the Wedding Albums.

  10. 12 months on - did you ever research the other families? They were probably friends of your great grandparents if not acquaintances. I ma sure anyone would be over the moon to know someone has a an original invitation to a ancestor's wedding. Another great source for wedding of the past is newspapers - the descriptions of the wedding dress, other outfits and who gave what are sometimes amazing not to mention the opportunity to pick up other family members. Beautiful collection Caitie. Lyn

  11. They are wonderful to have... I'm sure there will be many in Dad's appears when we get a chance to go through them all. I save all mine as well, along with cards and other invites... they are a rich source of history. Lyn's idea of checking newspapers for more details can only add to their value for research. I have gleaned so much more about our families from wedding announcements, etc.
I'm so pleased that you have inherited these Caitlin as I know you will treasure them.
